| Katas |
| Katas are an important basis for stances, basic movements and basic techniques. A Kata consists of a pre-briefed series of basic tachniques and therefore allows subsequent training and improving of accuracy and speed. Skilled students "run" a Kata as one succession of techniques. This generates a higher speed and thus more power. Moreover by practising a Kata, the student improves his flexibility, feeling of balance, concentration and condition. | Kumite |
| Kumite is the first preparation for fighting. This pre-briefed partner exercise combines one (Ippon Kumite) or several (Kumite) basic attacks with a possible defense and counter attack. Again succession of several techniques in one movement is one goal. Another goal which is archived by practising Kumite is to get a feeling for different kinds of attacks and distances. When the training is done with contact, Uke and Tori can feel the effect of the techniques they are practising. |
| 5th Kumite | |
5th Kumite-avi (256K) | Just as in all other Kumite, the basic strance for Uke is Zenkutsu-Dachi and Nekoashi-Dachi for Tori. Uke attacks with Chudan Mae-Geri (right foot). Tori evades with a small jump backwards into Nekoashi-Dachi and blocks with Marote Shotei-Uke (see pic). Now Uke starts a second attack with Jodan Oi-Tsuki. Tori evades to the left, now standing in Zenkutsu-Dachi and blocks with Jodan Shuto-Uke. Finally Tori strikes his his counter attack with Chudan Yoko-Geri. |

By a slight twist of his body Tori makes Uke fall, and attacks him with Kin-Geri (right foot) and Gedan Marote Shuto-Uchi. |

| Self-defense |
| Self-defense is also done as a partner exercise. As this training is supposed to simulate an everyday's situation, there are no stances. The possible attacks vary from hitting, choking and grabbing to attacks with weapons like sticks or knifes. Defense shall be done quickly, effectively and in agreement with today's self-defense laws. |

Lapel-grabbing-avi (328K) | Uke grabs Tori's lapel. Tori starts his counter attack with Jodan Oi-Tsuki (right) and levers the grabbing hand using a palm twist bend lever. With an antiparallel movement, Tori tows the ellbow of the grabbing arm downwards in order to reach a levering effect (see pic). Tori finishes his counter attack with Hiza-Geri. |

Headlock-avi (418K) | Uke attacks Tori with a Chudan Oi-Tsuki followed by a headlock. Tori starts his counter attack with Gedan Gyaku-Tsuki (right) and pulls Uke backwards by tugging his hair. Now Tori finishes his technique with a Chudan Shuto-Uchi (see pic). |
| Defense against stick-slash | |
Stick-defense-avi (420K) | Uke attacks Tori with a crossover stick-slash towards the knee. Tori evades to the left into Zenkutsu-Dachi and blocks Uke's the slashing arm with Gyaku-Gedan-Barai. The counter attack starts with Chudan Ura-Mawashi-Geri (see pic), proceeds with Gedan Yoko-Geri (hitting Uke's knee) and finishes with Jodan Marote-Oi-Tsuki. |
